England along with Welsh Drawn Together for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was overseen by rugby legends including two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side and Wales have been drawn in an identical group for the World Cup in 2027, setting up a major pool stage encounter in Australia. They are joined in Group F by Tonga and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This pairing mirrors their famous clash in the group phase of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the hosts' shock group stage elimination.

Key Pool Draws

The Irish alongside the Scots have likewise been drawn in a pool once again, replicating the scenario from the 2023 edition. In that tournament, they claimed a convincing victory, with Scotland failing to advance to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Portugal, who each impressed as surprise packages in the last World Cup, complete that Pool D.

Significantly, the winners of these two groups cannot meet holders and top-ranked the Springboks before the final, presuming the Springboks top their assigned pool.

Tournament Implications

Should the groups play out in line with the current global standings, further top favourites like New Zealand and France would remain separated from both the English and the Irish all the way to the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the remaining highly-seeded nation on the same side of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Face Blockbuster Opener

Tournament hosts Australia find themselves together with their great rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Group A.

Australia will kick off the tournament in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster fixture designed to jump-start the event.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have been paired with the Azzurri, Georgia and Romania. France are in a pool with the Brave Blossoms, 2031 hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face the Flying Fijians, Los Leones and Canada as the World Cup expands to twenty-four nations from the 20 who competed in France.

This edition will feature a round of 16 round for the first time in the competition's history.

Although the winner of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the game's heavyweights initially, they will meet the runner-up from Group B – probably Italy – in the first knockout round.

A total of four of the remaining six pool winners will face a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
